• It commemorates the Federal Charter, which was concluded at the beginning of August 1291.

• Since July 1994, 1. August has also been a non-working holiday throughout Switzerland.

• Speeches, brunch, impressive high-altitude fires, and fireworks are part of the usual program of the federal celebration.
